From housing commission to top agent
Ozan Kanbur, one of Buxton Real Estate's leading agents was recently recognised as one of Herald Sun's Best-Selling Agents Under 30 - no small feat for the kid who grew up in commission housing and finished school with low ATAR results.
His path to real estate was hardly straightforward; he found his way into retail sales by chance and entered this industry thanks to a colleague’s recommendation. Now, after years of steady commitment, (and countless hours of door-knocking and cold prospecting), Ozan is hitting his stride in Melbourne’s property market.
Persistence pays off
Ozan’s early years in real estate were defined by relentless door-knocking and cold calling. He spent hours each day building his database of potential clients, focusing on creating long-term relationships rather than securing immediate sales. “The first five years were tough.
“All I did was knock on doors and build relationships. It was about the long game, knowing that one day those connections would pay off. My win with door-knocking was how many names and numbers I got, not whether I found a listing or got an appraisal.”
His strategy was to establish a presence in the community and stay in touch with those he met, understanding that consistency was key to eventual success. "I’ve got clients now that I door-knocked 10 years ago that we’ve just recently sold for."
Client-focused approach: A central pillar of Ozan’s success has been his commitment to his clients.
“Success comes down to hard work and integrity. If you focus on what’s best for your clients and consistently go the extra mile, the rest falls into place,” he explained.
Resilience in the face of challenges
From growing up in commission housing and facing uncertainty after leaving school, pushed him to work harder and seek better opportunities for his family - including buying his mum a home. “That experience is what pushes me to work harder and create a better life,” he said.

TOGETHER WITH VIEW.COM.AU
Real estate agent Julie Hodgson faced some tough sales in her career, but none more so than a post-war cottage in Queensland. Despite initially attracting strong interest and going under contract twice, both deals fell through due to finance issues. The well-maintained home, priced under $400,000, began to lose buyer interest.
In the first of a series of exclusive articles, Julie shares how she turned to C21 Edge, a digital marketing solution powered by view.resi’s off-portal performance product Acquire, to extend the property's online reach. This reinvigorated the campaign, increasing open home attendance and ultimately leading to a successful sale at the asking price.
“It’s quite clever, it operates in the background and the algorithm pushes the listing through to websites where the right buyers are,” she said.

Blue chip suburbs hit new highs
Australia's premium property market is soaring, with ten suburbs surpassing the $3 million median house price mark in 2024. North Curl Curl in Sydney led the pack with a 29% increase to $3.8 million.
Even outside Sydney and Melbourne, many blue-chip areas are approaching $2 million. Experts put this down to high demand and limited supply in desirable locations, with quality homes still selling quickly despite broader market challenges.
