10 habits of highly-confident real estate agents
Confidence is the cornerstone of success in real estate, shaping how agents perform and how clients perceive them.
It goes without saying that in our industry, where first impressions and trust are everything, cultivating confidence can be a true game-changer.
But how? Shane Kempton, CEO of Harcourts WA, breaks down how adopting simple, intentional habits can boost both personal performance and client trust.
Drawing inspiration from Stephen Coveyās āThe 7 Habits of Highly Effective Peopleā, Mr Kempton offers real estate agents a practical guide to building the mindset and behaviours that drive success in a competitive market.
Communication and engagement
Mr Kempton drums home the importance of strong communication habits, such as maintaining eye contact and speaking in a calm, steady voice. These habits convey trust and assurance, making clients feel more comfortable and confident in their agentās abilities. āIn real estate, building rapport is everything, and consistent eye contact is a small but powerful tool to strengthen those relationships.ā
Honesty and humility
Confident agents donāt need to boast about their achievements or pretend they know everything. Instead, they focus on their clientsā needs and arenāt afraid to admit when they donāt have an answer, showing honesty and a commitment to finding solutions. This authenticity helps build deeper trust with clients, as it demonstrates integrity and a willingness to go the extra mile.
Resilience and growth
Embracing challenges and failures as opportunities for growth is another key habit of confident agents. He highlights the importance of reflecting regularly on past experiences, learning from setbacks, and adjusting approaches as necessary. āEvery failure is a stepping stone to future success. Develop a habit of growth from adversity.ā This mindset not only helps agents develop resilience but also keeps them focused on continuous improvement in a constantly evolving industry.

Known for his authenticity and grounded approach, Alex shares how his definition of success has evolved over time, focusing less on material achievements and more on meaningful connections with family, colleagues, and clients.
Alex offers some surprising insights into his success in the real estate industry, revealing why emotional resilience is a top skill for agents and why flashy displays of wealth may actually undermine success. He also discusses the spiritual side of the business and how giving back to others can bring unexpected rewards.
As Alex reflects on his future, he may even be hinting at stepping away from the sales frontlines to focus on his health and family. What sacrifices has he made, and how does he plan to shape his journey moving forward?
SMART SNIPPETS
Domain CEO Jason Pellegrino steps down

Massive land release to tackle housing crisis
Victoria is set to announce its largest-ever land release for housing, targeting Melbourne's outer suburbs. The government plans to open up extensive plots in the north, west and southeast, potentially leading to thousands of new homes. This move aligns with their goal to build 30% of new homes in outer suburban areas.
Stamp duty reform key to boosting home ownership
The REIQ has welcomed Federal Housing Minister Clare O'Neil's endorsement of phasing out stamp duty, which she referred to as a "bad tax." Simon Pressley, Propertyology's Head of Research, also criticised the current system as the ābiggest blockage of human mobility in Australiaā, urging for a broader reform beyond adjustments for specific groups like first-home buyers and retirees.
Landlords are absorbing rate hikes
Contrary to popular belief, Australian landlords aren't passing on interest rate increases to tenants. A recent RBA study found that for every dollar increase in mortgage costs, rents only go up by one cent. Despite a median $850 monthly interest payment hike, rents increased by less than $10 per month. The RBA say the real culprit behind rising rents is immigration combined with tight supply.
