Ever wondered why the new fruit you popped in your fruit bowl is over ripe just a day or two later? It could be the use of a fruit bowl that’s to blame. You see, according to Melbourne ‘fruit nerd’ Thanh Truong, who has researched this stuff, deep fruit bowls trap ethylene – a natural gas emitted by ripening produce, which also speeds up ripening in nearby fruits. Apparently, the solution is to store fruit on separate plates, arms distance apart. Hmmm…. interesting. If this tip takes off people are going to need bigger kitchens. A fun fact to tell your potential buyers perhaps?!!
