Press to success: 21 ideas for agents to get noticed by the media

To get great publicity for your business you don't need to do this πŸ‘†

The typewriters are gone, and so are the excuses not to create great content to promote your business. Publicity is still one of the best things you can do for your business – it wins listings, brings good people to your door, and it's increasingly how Google works out who the local authority is. What's changed is where the work lives. The writing – the part that used to look like this – now takes seconds with AI. The skill is knowing what you're holding: genuine news runs on merit, promotion is worth paying to place properly, and every sale you make has a story in it. The refreshed guide covers all 21 moments, and the prompts to go with them.

What you'll learn in the full article:

  • The 21 moments worth pitching: concrete ideas from opening a new office to a new record, each linked to a published Elite Agent story – some ran on merit, some were paid placements, and this guide will tell you when each route is the right one.
  • The prompts that do the writing: the newsworthiness test that makes AI argue against your pitch before an editor can – and Scoop, our AI assistant journalist, who'll take your story down from the "Got a story?" button when you'd rather just talk.
  • The Google part: why "9,744 views, 12 inspections, five competing parties" beats a sold sticker for readers and algorithms alike – and how one conversation turns your sale into PR that a letterbox drop never can.

DEPT OF DATA

National home price falls deepen, Brisbane and Adelaide join decline

Brisbane, Adelaide join the price slide

Four months of falls in a row, and now Brisbane and Adelaide are in it too – Cotality's July figures show the sharpest monthly drop nationally since December 2022. Darwin's still the outlier, up around 16 per cent on houses over the year. REA's Anne Flaherty reckons further falls are likely before rates ease.

Hang around a bit with your coffee on the story for the cool interactive widget Sam built that shows the variances between data providers and what it looks like in July vs the annual figures.

DEPT OF HUMAN RESOURCES

Caroline Bolderston: Is being a great mentor the ingredient to successful team growth?

Five habits separate mentors from managers

Caroline Bolderston says the difference between a new hire who thrives and one who walks is rarely talent – it's mentorship. Her five habits, from in-tune hiring to structured feedback meetings, trace back to her own start under Manly agent Chris Murray, who had her commission-only within two years.

DEPT OF APPROVALS

House approvals hit five‑year high as affordability crisis deepens

House approvals hit five-year high in June

Detached house approvals climbed to 10,870 in June, the strongest month since August 2021, while multi-unit approvals jumped 17.7 per cent. But HIA's Tim Reardon warns it's a lagging signal – rate rises and tax changes haven't hit the numbers yet, with confidence already softening ahead of a likely pullback in investor activity.

HOW IT SOLD

Krish Gajera's 45-minute phone call saves Parafield Gardens auction

Passed in at auction, sold for $1.115m by phone

Barry Plant directors focus on strategy as AML deadline passes

Every Barry Plant office was AUSTRAC-enrolled, trained and compliant three weeks before the 1 July anti-money laundering deadline, according to the network. That head start let CEO Lisa Pennell and Directors spend the day at the group's Queenstown Leadership Conference on business planning and mentoring rather than paperwork, with more than 60 offices comparing notes on lifting performance across the network.

TRUE OR FALSE:

In 1759, Arthur Guinness signed a 999-year lease on the St James's Gate brewery site in Dublin – at a rent of just Β£45 a year.

And the answer is …

Answer

It's False - it was actually a 9,000-year lease. Arthur Guinness was 34 when he signed it on 31 December 1759, taking on a disused brewery at St James's Gate for Β£45 a year – and the lease document is now displayed under glass in the floor of the Guinness Storehouse. The company later bought the land outright, making the lease academic, but on paper it still had roughly 8,700 years left to run. Somewhere, a property manager just felt a great disturbance in their rent review schedule.
