MINDSET

The power of personal growth

Personal development bridges the gap between where you are and where you want to be. Image: Getty

Personal development is the key differentiator between a good real estate agent and a great one.

Heather Edwards, CEO of Harcourts SA, believes success in real estate isnā€™t just about closing deals, itā€™s about continuous personal growth. Agents who invest in developing their skills, confidence, and mindset are better equipped to navigate challenges, build stronger client relationships, and sustain long-term success.

A game changer in real estate
"Real estate is about relationships - relationships with clients, colleagues, and, critically, yourself. Personal development bridges the gap between where you are and where you want to be. It allows professionals to fine-tune their skills, gain clarity on their ambitions, and show up as their best selves every day," says Heather.

ā€œThrough training and nurturing, Iā€™ve seen time and again how this approach transforms careers. Agents who focus on their goals bring sharper negotiation skills, stronger client rapport, and, most importantly, a sense of purpose that fuels sustained performance."

Overcoming challenges with the right mindset
Heather acknowledges that real estate is a high-pressure industry, requiring resilience and adaptability.

ā€Youā€™re expected to juggle client needs, market shifts, and intense competition ā€¦ all without dropping the ball."

Her advice? "Set clear, actionable goals that help you prioritise. Instead of trying to master everything at once, focus on honing one skill at a time - whether itā€™s closing deals faster or building greater client trust. Break your goals into manageable steps and celebrate small wins along the way."

The power of mentorship and training
"Training isnā€™t a ā€˜one-and-doneā€™ workshop; itā€™s a continuous process built around meaningful engagement and real results."

She highlights the importance of mentorship, saying, "Personal growth thrives with a guiding hand. Surround yourself with mentors and role models who want to see you flourish.ā€

Aussie home prices hit record highs after interest rate cut
National home prices rose 0.40% in February, reversing recent declines and reaching new highs. Capital cities led the rebound, with Melbourne (+0.67%) and Sydney (+0.50%) seeing the largest gains.

Improved affordability and buyer confidence, driven by falling interest rates, have boosted demand. Experts predict continued price growth, though affordability constraints may slow the pace.

Independent research shows housing has become the top concern for one in four voters, while 70% believe the federal government isn't doing enough.

The group, representing 1.35 million workers, will target 40 key electorates and issue weekly scorecards rating political parties on their housing solutions.
