How inner dialogue drives real estate success

The words that shape your career

In real estate, it's easy to focus on scripts, systems, and market strategy, but the most influential force in an agent’s success isn’t external at all. It’s mindset. After more than a decade coaching professionals in this industry, Caroline Bolderston says one truth stands out: the beliefs agents hold about themselves shape how they perform. At the heart of this is the “I Am” theory, how the phrases we use to define ourselves can either anchor us in limitation or unlock our potential for growth.

The Agency

Limiting labels equals self-fulfilling loops

When an agent says “I am not organised” or “I am bad at technology,” they’re not just describing themselves, they’re creating a personal ceiling. These declarations often stem from past missteps or unchallenged assumptions.

Over time, they harden into identities that prevent meaningful progress. Without even realising it, agents avoid systems or skills they believe don’t align with who they are, perpetuating the very struggles they want to overcome.

Rewrite the script to rewire the results

Breaking free starts with a pen and honest reflection. Identifying the most common limiting “I Am” statements, and consciously flipping them into positive, present-tense affirmations, reframes the way agents see themselves. “I am focused,” “I am prepared,” and “I am constantly improving” are not just phrases; they’re signals to the brain to expect, and build, new outcomes. Repetition embeds them deeper, gradually replacing the old script.

Growth is a habit, not a trait

The power of “I Am” lies in its consistency. Like any high-performance skill, mindset needs reps. That means catching the old story as it resurfaces, interrupting it, and reinforcing the new one every day. Over time, those internal shifts show up in external wins: better prospecting, more confident listing presentations, and clearer communication with clients. Your identity isn’t fixed. It’s a decision you get to make, moment by moment.

Matterport's Project Genesis is reshaping property marketing

In Part 4 of Elite Agent’s Matterport series, Samantha McLean speaks with Mark Teo, Senior Director Sales & Partnerships, APAC at Matterport, about Project Genesis, an AI initiative set to transform how agents market properties. Unlike traditional AI models, it’s trained on spatial data from millions of real-world scans. “This gives us a unique opportunity to develop AI that truly understands physical spaces in ways we haven't seen before,” says Mark.

The technology enables features like room measurements, layout interpretation, and photorealistic renovation previews. “Matterport’s AI tools are designed to enhance, not replace, an agent’s expertise,” he adds. With digital twins now featuring in 12% of listings (up from 2%), Mark believes the momentum is clear: “Agents who start integrating these tools today will be ahead of the curve as the industry moves toward fully interactive, AI-driven property marketing.”

DEPT OF MIGRATION

Families are flocking to regional QLD. Photo: Getty

Families fleeing cities for Queensland sunshine

Aussie families are packing up and heading to regional Queensland in record numbers, with 2.48 families moving in for every one that leaves. The Sunshine Coast tops the popularity list with an impressive 3.28 inbound-to-outbound ratio, while Sydney has seen the highest exodus nationwide. Remote work flexibility is driving this sea change, with many families prioritising lifestyle and affordability over city living. More than one in ten are even downsizing to smaller homes in their quest for a better life balance.

DEPT OF BUYER BEHAVIOUR

In an LJ Hooker survey, only 24 per cent of respondents said they would be open to living with their in-laws. Photo: Getty

No roomies, thanks: Aussie buyers want space, peace and a bit of old-school charm

Aussie families aren’t keen on sharing - whether it’s bedrooms, in-laws, or noisy neighbourhoods. A new LJ Hooker survey shows 60% of parents won’t buy if the kids have to bunk together, and just one in four are open to in-laws moving in (granny flat required). Gen Z is unexpectedly into formal dining rooms (bring on the dinner parties), and school zones still top the must-have list. For agents, it’s all about selling space, privacy, and a peaceful postcode.
