Domain dropped its latest Rent Report this morning and there’s a little positive news for tenants, with rental price growth slowing, stagnating or falling across the capital cities. Vacancy rates have also lifted, as the market looks to have turned a corner heading into the second half of 2024. Domain Chief of Research and Economics, Dr Nicola Powell, says while June is a traditionally slower time for the rental market, the easing conditions did not appear to be just a blip on the radar. Novel ideas turn the page on Aussie literature

If you’re looking for a little weekend reading, the finalists in the 2024 Miles Franklin literary award, Australia’s highest literary honour, have been announced. They include Gregory Day’s The Bell of the World, which is a reflection on early 20th-century regional Victoria and Alexis Wright’s Praiseworthy, which is lauded for its expansive narrative on a remote Indigenous community facing environmental collapse. Other contenders include Jen Craig’s Wall, a deeply introspective narrative monologue, while first-time novelists Sanya Rushdi, Hossein Asgari, and André Dao also made the shortlist, with their works exploring themes from psychosis and family history to the modern Australian story.
