Self-awareness for real estate success

In real estate, success isn’t just about market knowledge or negotiation skills, it’s also about understanding yourself.

Whether you’re navigating client relationships, managing team dynamics, or adapting to changing market conditions, self-awareness is the key to staying ahead.

Jet Xavier, a high performance coach, explains that the most successful agents share one powerful trait: the ability to truly know themselves. Drawing parallels to the dedication of Olympic athletes, he highlights how self-awareness can transform your career in 2025.

Know yourself to grow your business

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People author Stephen Covey’s wrote that self-awareness involves examining “our thinking, motives, and habits”. For agents, this is about understanding your strengths, like negotiation skills, and weaknesses, such as procrastination or poor time management. In an industry driven by trust and relationships, this can be the first step to closing more deals and building long-term success.

Blind spots are holding you back

Respected organisational psychologist, Tasha Eurich, presented research which revealed that while 95% of people believe they are self-aware, only 10-15% truly are. For agents, this could mean missing out on opportunities to improve client interactions or streamline processes.

These “blind spots” act like hidden obstacles in your business, quietly holding you back from the next level of performance. By identifying and addressing them, you can position yourself as the agent of choice in your market.

Three ways agents can boost self-awareness

  1. Seek feedback: Regularly ask colleagues, mentors, and even clients for honest input on your performance. This insight can reveal behaviours you didn’t realise were affecting your outcomes.

  2. Use personality assessments: Tools like the DISC model or Clifton Strengths Finder can help you understand how your natural tendencies affect your interactions, productivity, and leadership.

  3. Reflect intentionally: Set aside time to journal after key moments, such as a lost listing or a successful sale. Ask yourself what worked, what didn’t, and how your actions or mindset contributed to the outcome.
