Good Morning from Elite Agent

Just last week we told you that 93 per cent of real estate agency owners expect their revenue to grow over the next year, according to a NAB insights survey. But what do Elite Agent readers predict? We asked them in our weekly, snap Movers+Shakers poll and, good news, the figures were very similar. About 45 per cent of respondents expect to record “significant” revenue growth compared to 2023, while 42 per cent anticipate “marginally higher” results. Just 13 per cent of agency owners expect revenue “about the same” as last year and no one reported this year being slower than 2023. #winning!

  • Shane Kempton on toxic positivity

  • A landlord-tenant drug bust-up

  • Queensland Budget a mixed bag

Today’s Feature

Toxic positivity: When looking on the bright side of life isn’t so bright

When is positivity not positive? When it’s toxic positivity. According to Shane Kempton, toxic positivity occurs in moments when you, albeit well meaning, dismiss others sadness or anger with comments such as, “Just think positive”, or “Everything happens for a reason”. In today’s feature, the first in a two-part series, Shane explains more about what toxic positivity is, how it manifests and why it is so harmful. More here.

Major bank cuts interest rates

European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has stressed that interest rates are not on a straightforward downward trajectory, and the bank may pause cuts between meetings. Despite last week's rate cut of 25 basis points, down from a record high to 3.75 per cent, the ECB did not commit to further easing due to persistent wage growth and rising inflation projections. Lagarde emphasised that future cuts will depend on upcoming data on wages, corporate profits, and productivity, with policymakers remaining cautious about making definitive statements amidst economic uncertainties. Better late than never

Fifty years after a tornado warning abruptly cancelled their high school graduation, the class of 1974 from Moore, Oklahoma, have finally received their diplomas. This week, about 200 graduates wore blue caps and gowns, celebrating their long-awaited moment under sunny skies. Family members of deceased classmates walked on their behalf, and the class president and valedictorians delivered speeches they had prepared half a century ago. More here.
