On our radar

Less pain but still not much gain

Renters across Australia remain in rental distress despite signs of conditions easing in some states (as we reported yesterday). According to the latest SuburbTrends Rental Pain Index, Australian states recorded a mixed bag of results in July, with the proportion of NSW suburbs in rental pain falling from 72.54 per cent in June to 71.69 per cent in July. However, Queensland didn’t fare as well. More here.

The power of putting community first

For the G.J. Gardner Homes Shoalhaven team, supporting local communities is just good business. They took home the Contribution to Community Award at last year’s REA Excellence Awards for their role in ‘The House that Convoy Built’, a project that raised more than $1.3 million for the Illawarra Community Foundation. Managing Director Sean Vickery says there’s nothing quite like seeing first-hand the positive impact you’re having, and wants to see more people nominate themselves for this award. More here.

Retail therapy with a difference

An increase in retail transactions has been playing out here in Australia this year, and over in Singapore, shopping centres are pulling out all the stops to stand out. The new Bahru Mall has made a splash by converting Nan Chiau High School into a shopping haven that retains original features like the school hall and classrooms. This setting is coupled with a focus on homegrown brands and interactive experiences. Other shopping centres, including One Holland Village and a revamped Clarke Quay are also upping their game, promoting pet-friendly environments and daytime attractions to lure shoppers away from online shopping. A spark of innovation

On this day in 1856 inventor Nikola Tesla was born. The visionary is credited with inventing the Alternating Current (AC) system, the Tesla Coil, the induction motor, radio, and wireless power transmission. While his name is still famous today, it’s often forgotten that he had multiple failures including the Wardenclyffe Tower, the Tesla Oscillator and radio patent disputes. If you want to become more adaptable and overcome failure in real estate, Pancho Mehrotra shows you how.
