Good Morning from Elite Agent
A surge of new listings have flooded onto the market in Sydney and Melbourne, marking the most active start to the year in more than a decade. According to the latest PropTrack Listings Report, new listings jumped 27.8 per cent in Melbourne last month, making it the busiest January since 2008. It was a similar story in Sydney, where listings rose 27.7 per cent, year-on-year, making it the most active January since 2011. However, it’s a bit of a different story when you consider all listings. Find out why here.

On our radar
Zillow isn’t making zillions
A fourth quarter surge in revenue hasn’t stopped US listings platform Zillow from posting a calendar year loss of US$158 million in 2023. According to the group’s consolidated financial results, fourth quarter revenue climbed 9 per cent year-on-year, but was still 1 per cent down for the calendar year at $1.9B. Despite the favourable revenue bump in the last quarter, the group still sustained a $73 million net loss for the final three months of the year, with that figure increasing to $158 million for the calendar year. From phonographs to playlists
Speaking of Queen, and music, do you love to pop on a bit of We Are the Champions after a great auction result? (We know you do!) But you wouldn’t be able to do that if it were not for Thomas Edison receiving a patent for the cylinder phonograph on this day back in 1878. Of course this eventually lead to gramophones, records and various evolutions in the way we record and listen to music. Today, most folks download and stream music from various providers like Spotify, but vintage vinyl records are making a comeback, with sales jumping 20 per cent in the US in 2022. Now, excuse us while we go and dig out our record collection!
