Zillow isn’t making zillions

A fourth quarter surge in revenue hasn’t stopped US listings platform Zillow from posting a calendar year loss of US$158 million in 2023. According to the group’s consolidated financial results, fourth quarter revenue climbed 9 per cent year-on-year, but was still 1 per cent down for the calendar year at $1.9B. Despite the favourable revenue bump in the last quarter, the group still sustained a $73 million net loss for the final three months of the year, with that figure increasing to $158 million for the calendar year. From phonographs to playlists

Speaking of Queen, and music, do you love to pop on a bit of We Are the Champions after a great auction result? (We know you do!) But you wouldn’t be able to do that if it were not for Thomas Edison receiving a patent for the cylinder phonograph on this day back in 1878. Of course this eventually lead to gramophones, records and various evolutions in the way we record and listen to music. Today, most folks download and stream music from various providers like Spotify, but vintage vinyl records are making a comeback, with sales jumping 20 per cent in the US in 2022. Now, excuse us while we go and dig out our record collection!
