REA Group has jumped in with a $122,000 pledge to support Nedd Brockmann’s Uncomfortable Challenge, where the electrician-turned-runner is pushing for a world record 1,000-mile run to raise $10 million for We Are Mobilise. “Our donation is representative of the number of Australians who experience homelessness on any given night,” said REA Group Chief Executive Officer, Owen Wilson.

Listing Melbourne, the latest reality series to hit Australian screens, is set to showcase the competitive world of Melbourne's luxury property market.

Premiering tomorrow at 8.30pm on Channel 9 and 9Now, this five-part series dives into the lives of five elite real estate agents navigating a diverse range of properties.

Executive producer Gary Takle, known for his work on international hits like Million Dollar House Hunters and Behind The Gates, promises a show packed with glamour, intense negotiations, and high-stakes career moments.

"It's not just about luxury homes; it's about a mix of incredible, elite properties and more affordable homes that everyday Australians can aspire to," Gary said.

Meet the cast

Viewers can expect more than just properties, with cast members bringing their distinct personalities to the screen. The lineup includes Nicole Jacobs, Fraser Lack, Tabitha Robb, Andrew Campbell and Diana Kozlowska.

Diana, described by Gary as a “firecracker,” is quick to confront fellow agent Fraser Lack over a controversial remark in episode one. "She doesn’t take sh*t. She’s the one who really shakes things up in the show," said Gary.

Behind the scenes

While the high-end homes are the backdrop, the agents’ personal lives and professional challenges take centre stage. Tabitha Robb, director of Prop Culture, appreciated the show’s ability to address industry issues head-on: "It gave us the chance to have open conversations about issues in our industry, from fierce competition to ethical dilemmas," she said.

With big personalities, stunning properties, and high drama, she said Listing Melbourne promises to engage both real estate professionals and viewers intrigued by the city’s property scene.

Why Melbourne?

As a fellow Melburnian, Gary highlighted how the city’s architecture and buyer behaviour differ from other luxury real estate markets. "Melburnians are more understated; they don’t flaunt their wealth, which has been interesting to see on screen." Agents are similarly less showy. "It took us 12 months to find a cast. In Sydney or Los Angeles, we’d have agents lining up to be on a show like this, but Melbourne agents are more cautious. They’re worried about how they’ll be portrayed or having people delve into how they conduct their business.”

SMART SNIPPETS

Stamp duty slashed for off-the-plan properties
Victoria is making it easier to buy off-the-plan homes. The government has expanded stamp duty concessions, potentially saving buyers thousands. Under the scheme, a $620,000 apartment could see stamp duty reduced from $32,000 to just $4,000. The year-long program, starting October 2024, aims to stimulate housing development and help more families become homeowners.

Wedding gifts go from toasters to house deposits
With property prices skyrocketing, Aussie couples are increasingly requesting wedding guests to contribute to their house deposit. The trend is already big news in the US with wedding registry company Zola reporting 87 per cent of couples include cash as a wedding option. Experts say it's a smart move that gives couples a chance to get on the property ladder.

Crown land to house essential workers
A ground breaking proposal could see nurses, teachers, and firefighters living on unused Crown land. Unions NSW and Business NSW have joined forces to back a plan allowing essential workers to access housing without land costs. The move aims to address Sydney's housing crisis, where weekly rents have soared by 60% since 2020. This innovative approach could be a game-changer for retaining vital public service workers in local communities.
