Southern Europe’s real estate steals the show

Southern European cities, including Lisbon, Madrid, and Athens, experienced robust growth in residential property values in the first half of the year, with Lisbon leading the way at a 4.2 per cent increase, driven by an influx of wealthy foreign buyers, according to Savills Plc. This significantly exceeded the average 0.8 per cent increase across the 30 cities Savills analysed, as a housing supply crunch and a strong dollar attracted American buyers to the region. The prime rental market also saw substantial growth, with Lisbon, Dubai, and Bangkok among the top performers, as high interest rates and limited supply pushed more potential buyers into renting, leading to a 7.5 per cent increase in rents in Lisbon over the same period.
